Love & Healing Through the Hands & Heart
Distinctly Hawaiian and mysterious, it is the type of spiritual massage practiced by Kahunas for centuries. “If we could combine Swedish massage, the various baths, chiropractic, osteopathy, the use of suggestion and the ancient practice of the “laying on of hands: (to heal) we would approach the scope of LomiLomi as a skilled Kahuna might practice it” writes Max Freedom Long, the author of “The Secret Science Behind the Miracles.”
LomiLomi is often vigorous and deep yet gentle, it all depends on what the body tells you it needs. LomiLomi practitioners believe you should move negativie energy and emotions out and away from the body while at the same time they have techniques that move blood toward the heart to filter and purify fluids using the bodies own cleansing and healing energy. Often a higher source directs the touch of a LomiLomi expert as stress is reduced and healing begins.
Most of those who practice the true Hawaiian LomiLomi in the world today were taught by an Hawaiian named Aunty Margaret Machado. Her students emphasize the spiritual aspects of the ancient technique. Only a handful of her students practice on the mainland today. Anne is among one of the true practitioners taught in the traditional way.
For Aunty Margaret, Lomilomi means more than the literal translation, "working in and out like the claws of a contented cat." LomiLomi is also more than a skill passed down from her Hawaiian Kupunas (elders). It is a daily manifestation of her faith in God (Creator) and her unconditional love for mankind.
"In LomiLomi you have to love the patient's body as if it were your own," she is fond of saying. This simple twist on the Golden Rule has inspired hundreds of Aunty Margaret's students.
"A lot of native healers believe all healing comes from above. "The healing is done through you, not from you. Aunty Margaret says, I am not a healer. God is the healer.
The core of LomiLomi is gentle touch. The sensitive touch is crucial to the success of massage on a physiological level. The sensory nerves become stimulated during massage. These nerves, part of the body's defense system, will tighten in a "fight or flight" response if the body becomes anxious. But caress the body lovingly and it will open up to trust and, ultimately to healing.
The practitioner should remember that the healing is done through them by a greater power. Often when students first learn LomiLomi, they have a couple of successes and they think 'It’s me. It's my doing'. Then all of a sudden, nothing works for them anymore.
Eventually, you realize that the more humble you are, the more room in your heart for the Creator to come in. Touch the body with a loving touch. If your hands are gentle and loving, your patient will feel the sincerity of your heart. Their soul will reach out to yours, and the Lord's healing will flow through you both.
LomiLomi and BodyTalk combined access the opportunity to communicate at the DNA level of cellular memory for releasing and healing which enables and reactivated cooperative restructuring processes. LomiLomi combines the use of prayer (pule), breath (ha), and energy (mana) with a variety of massage strokes to release areas of congestion in the body. LomiLomi improves physical and athletic performance through the rhythmic application of thumbs, knuckles, forearms and elbows to specific areas of tension. LomiLomi relaxes the nervous system, increases circulation and creates a tangible sense of well being. It is useful for maintaining health, and relieving pain from injury and debilitating illness. It is the "dance of massage," and is as wonderful to give as to receive. The power of touch in all living thing has only recently been understood and appreciated as a high science and a powerful healing.
Poem written by Nancy Blanchard to Aunty Angeline and Anne Lemieux in 1992 Ooh la la … at the Spa A letter poem of praise… Angeline and Anne, beaming welcome in colorful sarongs, Barefoot, hibiscus flowers in waist-length hair, Are "living their dream".
You echo the claim - As you gaze from the deck At voluptuous cliffs - Lift a glass of nectar to the stars - Eat traditional food: soup - From seaweed and o'pi'i' Plucked from the rocks - but is it only their dreams?
Aloha Anahola - I heard of you when I was only eight or nine- In the popular song "A ma po la, Relite Amapola…" Thought you were in South America, knew you were in paradise….
But here you are where I've found you, In Hawaii the dance is not "a tico tico toc", Done in teeny ruffled skirts to a tambourine.
It's steaming on the benches : Sauna, immersing in the cool tub, Discoursing on the rub
What's real…what's surreal or only a delusion? In the nude to an inner beat.
Angeline, Thank Heaven you had this dream, To plant … to build … to study and invite the world to do it with you.
To reclaim your land "Without asking permission", To find yourself, Teaching "Love Your Body".
Love your body people, As you love your land.
What Is Aloha?
Before you can have Aloha You must do Aloha
You must choose Aloha
You must have the power to choose
You must be the source of the power
You must be conscious of the source!
A Kindness, expressed with tenderness L Unity, expressed with harmony O Agreeable, expressed with pleasantness H Humility, expressed with modesty A Patience, expressed with perseverance
Before manifesting any idea, declare the creation of a context of Aloha for the idea!
E aloha mai E mana mai E pono mai E ola no! Amama, ua noa. Let there be love Let there be power Let there be harmony Let there be healing! So be it, it is done.
